Couldn’t resist posting this after finishing yet another viewing of Jerry Maguire! “I wanna hear you! Say it like ya mean it, Baby!!!” Lol

Gotta say this is probably the #1 thing that has rubbed off on me as a Tom Brady & Patriots fan over the years: Mental Toughness

Couldn’t agree more with this and I was a 4.1GPA grad in high school. I’m blessed to be logically and artistically gifted but I can guarantee that nurturing my artistic side is what has kept my logical side eager for learning and applying information. Without creative writing, physical fitness, photojournalism, choir, and theater classes also being emphasized at my high school, I’d likely have been one of those smart people that burned out.
Focusing on “just” what most people should “know” in terms of trivia, math, and science doesn’t dictate who will make the most contributions to society, be the best employees and business owners, or the best parents. The brain has to constantly be stimulated in VARIOUS directions in order for a person to become “intelligent” enough to deal with the plethora of life experiences. Standardized testing asks a lot of questions that leaves out a lot of theings the student really does know and understand at high levels. Plus how the question is asked is a major factor in which answer is indeed correct in a lot of cases.
Thought Of The Day:
Life is not what you make it. Life is what you make OF it…
Popstars and their struggles
I feel like this is really important.
Also other celebrities,
Miley Cyrus - Bullied at school.
Mary J Blige - Raped and sexually abused, drug addiction, alcoholism, depression, abusive relationship
Azalea Banks - Abusive mother
Jim Carrey - Homeless at a young age
Oprah Winfrey - Sexually abused alcoholism, drug addiction
50 cent - Born to a 15 year old drug dealing mother who was murdered when he was 8, started drug dealing at 11, carried gun and drugs with him to school at 12, was later shot 9 times at close range.
Demi Moore - Born to an 18 year old alcoholic, bipolar mother, grew up seeing her mother and step-father abuse eachother.
Christina Aguilera - She, her mother and sister were subject to her abusive father, bullied at school.
Friendly reminder: celebrities are people, not fucking objects for you to constantly judge.
And also a friendly reminder that our struggles do not define us. They do not have to keep us from reaching the heights we aspire to. These people are proof of that.
WHAT IS THERE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT???
Upon reading the news that Lupita Nyong’o has received People Magazine’s honor of being voted Most Beautiful Person for 2014, I for one was thrilled. I mean, WHY NOT? She is very intelligent, has a radiant personality, is very talented, and is obviously hard working. Unfortunately, too many people in the “black community” took the news once again as an opportunity to bash Lupita’s “beauty” and complain about the attention that she has been receiving from “others”.
I am sick of it!!! The same people that complain that minorities get left out of the spotlight are the ones complaining anytime anyone of color receives too much admiration. Could it be because Lupita doesn’t have body parts popping out everywhere like pop stars Beyonce, Rihanna, and Nikki Minaj? Could it be because she speaks “white” or is a little too positive for “the streets”? Is it because her sense of style is tasteful or she wears her natural hair? Or is it because she is comfortable being who she is despite who doesn’t approve?
I’m not one who considers herself pro-black but I’m also very supportive of people of color (any color) working hard at what they do and positively contributing to society. I don’t understand why so many people who claim to care so much about Black advancement feel they have to bash Lupita’s skin tone, beauty, or success because people everywhere seem to like her. She hasn’t done anything to anyone or degraded herself in any ways to deserve such backlash. How do such negative people feel they are helping anyone’s plight.
Sadly, a good chunk of attacks on minorities come from other minorities because certain people don’t fit into the “perceived” characteristics that people of specific groups feel that they should. Everyone doesn’t have to be physically attracted to Lupita, but they don’t I’ve to go out of their way to diminish her significance, either. People rush to put certain stars on a pedestal even when those stars seem to only serve the purpose of attention without inspiring anyone and yet those same people fight to tear down a pedestal that anyone may be standing on which invites change or progression. I think it says more about those who always choose to be anti-anything lovely than it does the person who represents the lovely.
I wish you could inject yourself with goodness & intelligence so the awful ppl would stay away like in World War Z.
Today marks 1 year since I came to this city & didn’t think I would survive it…. But God gave me a lot of help & I’ve come so far and so much closer to my goals. Can’t help but to shine.
